  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/3 cup warm whole milk
  • 2 tsp water
  • 1 egg
  • 2 oz apple pie filling
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 23 tsp water (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by mixing warm milk, water, and yeast in a bowl; let sit until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and sugar; cut in cold butter until crumbly.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and egg; stir gently until a dough forms.
  4. Chill the dough for at least one hour wrapped in plastic wrap.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and roll out the chilled dough into a rectangle.
  6. Spread apple pie filling along the center and sprinkle with cardamom.
  7. Fold the dough over the filling lengthwise; shape into an oval or horseshoe.
  8. Bake for 22–25 minutes until golden brown; cool on a wire rack.
  9. Mix powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and water for glaze; drizzle over cooled kringle.
