Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons loose-leaf smoky black tea or 2 tea bags
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 45 black peppercorns
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 3 green cardamom pods (slightly crushed)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • optional star anise
  • 12 tablespoons brown sugar

Instructions

  1. In a small pot, bring the water to a boil and add the black peppercorns, cloves, cardamom pods, and cinnamon stick. Simmer for about 5 minutes to infuse flavors.
  2. Add the smoky black tea to the pot and steep for 3-4 minutes based on desired strength.
  3. Stir in your choice of milk and brown sugar. Let simmer on low heat for another 3-4 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and strain into mugs using a fine mesh strainer.
