Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce (divided)
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil. Add the beef strips and marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the sliced onions until soft and slightly caramelized; season with salt and pepper before removing from the pan.
  3. Increase the heat to high and add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and stir-fry for about 3 minutes until browned.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together remaining soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch until smooth. Pour this sauce over the beef and simmer for a couple of minutes until thickened.
  5. Return the sautéed onions to the pan, stir everything together, and serve hot over rice or noodles.
